While we live in the suburbs, we like to think of our home as a modern farmhouse — the decor and details evidence this vibe as do our backyard chickens! Over the past few months, we have been intentional about making our home and yard as lovely as possible. While we have not done any recent major improvements to our home, we have added some decor, the chickens, and this year I did my very first garden.
The Kitchen —
In addition to my typical chicken + equestrian decor, I have recently added a few items that keep the kitchen “cozy” and welcoming. I appreciate items that are aesthetically pleasing but also useful. I am a fan of the Hearth & Hand with Magnolia brand. Their decor has a vintage farmhouse feel which I like. I recently picked up the following:
— Stoneware Sugar Bowl (Hearth & Hand with Magnolia)
— Stoneware Spoon Rest (Hearth & Hand with Magnolia)
— Cedar Magnolia Diffuser (Hearth & Hand with Magnolia)
— Rooster/Chicken Dish Towels
— Oil Canvas Table Cloth / Gray striped pattern (Hearth & Hand with Magnolia)
The Bedroom & Bathroom —
Last year we did some major improvements to our bedroom, including removing the carpet and putting in hardwood floors, adding plantation shutters, and painting. This year, we are keeping it simple with updating bedding and smaller decor items:
— Grey Stitched Quilt (So light and comfortable for the hot summer months).
— Candles
— Grey Sheet Set
— Throw Pillows
— Vintage Lipstick Holder
— Cute bathroom decor (rugs, bistro soap dish)
The Garden —
This year, I did my very first garden with G. We planted: cucumbers, tomatoes (large + cherry), carrots, zucchini, and green beans. Unfortunately, the local rabbits ate our lettuce! I am not an expert in gardening but used special tomato food (exact one linked below), as well as crushed up oyster shell to help with the growing process. I also use tomato cages + netting for green beans to climb.
Thanks for stopping by, X.
