“A walk about Paris will provide lessons in history, beauty, and in the point of life.” ~Thomas Jefferson. Paris holds a very special place in my heart because of him—and us. Many years ago, my husband and I got engaged in the City of Lights and the trip was spectacular. The city is romantic, beautiful, and rich with history. What else do I love about Paris? A few brief thoughts:
ONE // Musee d’Orsay. This lovely museum is one of my favorites as it is home to France’s national collection from the impressionist, postimpressionist, and art-nouveau movements spanning from 1848-1914. One of my personal favorites: the Degas’ ballerinas.
TWO // Jardin des Tuileries. This beautiful outdoor space is filled with fountains, ponds, and scultpures. According to history, this location was one of the most fashionable spots for parading about in one’s finest looks. Very apropos, indeed.
THREE // Lights. At the time of year when my husband and I were in Paris, just before Christmastime, Paris was so beautiful with its end of year illuminations. Of course, the Eiffel Tower was spectacular with its twinkling lights. Apparently, it uses some 20,000 bulbs to make it sparkle every night for ten minutes on the hour.
FOUR // Bridges. Paris is filled with beautiful bridges. Approximately 37 bridges span the Seine, the river that separates the Left and Right banks of Paris.
FIVE // Bread, Cheese, and Beaujolais. Obviously. The baguette, croque-monsieur (the delicious ham and cheese sandwich with a touch of bechemel sauce) or croque-madame (fried egg added on top), and artisanal cheeses.
SIX // Parisian Style. We should all emulate Parisian style. It is not about dressing to the nines but rather pulling off an effortless look that is clean, coordinated, and properly fitting. Parisians love neutrals and accessorizing with a single bold piece such as a bold scarf or hat.
“Paris is always a good idea.” ~Audrey Hepburn. Agreed.
Sincerely,
Gabriella
