Packing for vacation can be daunting—what to wear, what will the weather be, and finding the balance between comfort and style. While not exhaustive, here are some of my picks for a summer trip (for ease of reference, to shop an item, click on the image in the widgets below):
ONE // The Sunhat. Hats are not just for vacation. With fair skin and an understanding of the impact of sun damage, I am usually in a hat when outside during the day in the summer. I am a fan of a wide brim as they afford more sun protection and look chic. I also usually have a baseball cap (either black or camo) for pooltime or more casual looks. Regarding my wide brim hats, they are often not packable so I end up wearing one on the plane and stowing in the cabin.
TWO // Shoes. My “vacation” shoes usually include, 1 pair of black Nikes that I can hike wherever with an not worry about getting dirty, 1 pair of white sneakers that can “dress up” a look and be worn with shorts, skirt, or a dress, 1 pair of dressier flat sandals that look nice but are comfortable (usually the Tory Burch “Miller” sandal in a brown cognac), and 1 pair of nude wedges that can be worn for a night out (usually my favorite Stuart Weitzman). Do not forget a pair of cowboy boots.
THREE // Basic Tees. It is always good to have a few basic tees that can be worn alone or layered. My current favorite brand is Z Supply which can often be found on Amazon or Shopbop.
FOUR // Denim. Jeans can be hot depending on your destination but so useful and versatile. If the climate is hot, I usually still end up wearing jeans for evening. Black jeans are especially nice because they can be dressed up or down and always look chic. My current favorite pair linked below.
FIVE // Simple Accessories. A few interesting accessories (necklaces, hair scarf, etc.) can dress up an outfit.
SIX // Sunglasses. Eye protection!
SEVEN // Utility Jacket or Vest and/or Jean Jacket. I usually bring a neutral (olive green or denim) lightweight jacket or vest that can be used as a layering piece.
EIGHT // LWD or Top (the Little White Dress/TOP). An LWD/T is a pretty option for day and night and usually can be dressed up or down. Crisp and classy.
NINE // The Long Sleeve Shirt. Unpredictable vacation weather, need I say more. Having a couple long sleeve shirts that you can wear alone or layer is always smart as weather fluctuates. I usually pack a denim or chambray shirt and then a classic white one.
TEN // Horse Riding Gear. Destination depending, horse-riding gear usually makes its way into my suitcase. While I may not bring my hat and boots, some of my riding gear doubles as great everyday wear. A perfect example—my Ariat Sunstropper shirts which are cool and lightweight but also offer great sun protection for my various outdoor activities.
ELEVEN // Swimsuits. Consider bringing a couple suits activity depending. Here, are some of my current favorites.
Happy Summer Travels!
Sincerely,
Gabriella
