Relax. Recharge. Recalibrate. Walking into the New Year. The New Year has brought with it some unexpectedly cold weather which has impeded my daily walks outside on some days. It has made me realize how much I enjoy those daily walks outside with my family and pups. These walks are part of my routine and one of my daily habits, regardless of any other physical fitness activity that I may perform. I know the documented health benefits of walking (e.g. reduction of heart disease, strengthens bones and muscles, improved circulation, reduction of osteoporosis, otherwise anti-aging benefits, thus the recommendation to walk at least 10,ooo steps a day) but for me being outside and breathing in the fresh air even for 20 minutes truly does impact my mental outlook. During and after a walk I feel more centered and depending on my pre-walk mood, calm. Not surprisingly, studies show that the more steps a person takes a day the better their mood, as walking releases natural painkilling endorphins to the body —one of the known emotional benefits of exercise. Need to clear the cobwebs out of your head or hit refresh on your mood—take a walk. Regardless of my other exercise habits this is a habit that I will be sticking with in 2018! Cheers to walking onward and upward!
On a style related note, blazers are great transition pieces especially as the weather fluctuates and seasons change. Blazers are also the perfect layering piece that can be dressed up or down. This military inspired, seamed and structured blazer, by Free People, with its etched button details is beautiful yet functional, worn to the office and meetings but just as easily worn out for a walk as pictured here. Here, I pictured this military inspired blazer with black denim and OTK boots, but it looks terrific also with a slim pencil skirt and tights. The blazer also comes in a rich red color which is stunning.
