The fall in DC is a spectacular. As summer comes to an end, the leaves change to golden and reddish hues and the summer heat and humidity transitions to cool and crisp days. City dwellers head to the country to orchards for apple and pumpkin picking, as well as fall festivals. Vineyards are especially popular, the decadence of an afternoon of sampling local Virginia wines. This season holds a special and very personal place in my heart as it is the time of year when my now husband and I got engaged (in Paris, so very romantic), we got married (at Georgetown University our joint alma mater), and our beautiful son was born. All magical moments for this beautiful time of year.
Some of my favorite fall activities:
Fall Festivals
Hiking
Great Falls (e.g. The Billy Goat Trail)
Vineyards
Staycation
When my husband and I want to get out of town for some R&R, sometimes we opt for a “staycation”, where we stay local, e.g. hiking and a local VA B&B. We always select dog friendly spots as we like to include, F&Z.
The Salamander Resort (Middleburg, VA)
The Keswick (bit further, Charlottesville, VA)
